Class of 2017
My name is Kimrin and I left your school in 2017. I studied Biology, Chemistry and English Literature for my A Levels and went on to study Biomedical Science at Leeds Beckett University.
Within my degree I specialised in Physiology and Pharmacology, which is the study of how the body works and how disorders can be improved with medicines.
In my third year of my undergraduate degree, I completed a laboratory-based dissertation on HeLa cell lines investigating the anti-cancerous effects of essential oils.
My time completing my dissertation although was hard work, was very interesting and I’ve gained a wide range of skills which I can apply to a working environment. In my third year I gained a 1st (70% and above) in every module, meaning I graduated overall with a 1st class honours.
I am now studying a postgraduate degree in Neuroscience (which Mrs Stevenson will know is the course I’ve always wanted to study) at the University of Manchester. I love it! The course is so interesting and I have been given the opportunity to complete a project with my supervisor on an area of the brain called the lateral hypothalamus. I am looking at how the brain region uses light intensities detected by the eye to alter behaviour. This has never been investigated before!
After my MSc I am planning on a career in the pharmaceutical industry, developing new medicines.
