Frequently Asked Questions

Shown below are the most frequently asked questions by students and parents.
How can I sign my child up for instrumental/LAMDA lessons?

If you wish for your child to take instrumental lessons or LAMDA lessons in College, please email creativearts@gracecollege.org.uk and a member of the team will respond within 5 working days with further information regarding lessons.

What happens if instrumental/ LAMDA lessons are cancelled, or my child misses a lesson?
  • If an instrumental or LAMDA teacher misses a lesson, it will of course be re-arranged.
  • If a student needs to re-arrange a lesson because of an exam, a school trip, or any other reason, they must let their teacher know the week before and the lesson will be re-arranged.
  • If a student misses a lesson without notice, this lesson will not be arranged.
How will I know how my child is progressing?

Instrumental Lessons:

  • Each student receives a practice diary in their instrumental lessons. Parents can use the diary to check progress and to communicate with the Instrumental Teachers.
  • You will also receive a progress report in the spring term outlining your child’s effort, attitude, and development.

  • You will also receive a progress report in the spring term outlining your child’s effort, attitude, and development.

Instrumental lessons FAQ’s

How are instrumental lessons provided?
  • Students come out of their subject lessons and  go to studio 1 or 2 for their instrumental lessons.
  • Teachers will ensure that lessons rotate so they do not miss the same lesson each week.  Each lesson is 30 minutes long and will be taught in small groups.
How much do instrumental lessons cost?
  • The cost of the instrumental and singing lessons are £45 per half term based on an average of six lessons per half term.
How will my child know when their instrumental lessons are timetabled?
  • Students and parents can use this page for up-to-date timetables.  
  • They are also displayed in school outside studio 1 and 2.
  • Students will be added to this page when they sign up for instrumental lessons. Each teacher’s timetable is easily accessible, just make sure you check your group (letter) so you can check your times.
How can I request to stop my child’s instrumental lessons?

Learning to play an instrument takes patience, determination and regular practice.

We encourage your child to commit to the learning of an instrument for at least the first two terms of the year.

If during the year, you feel instrumental lessons are not suitable for your child, please contact the creativearts@gracecollege.org.uk as we cannot accept a message from a student.

LAMDA FAQ’s

How are LAMDA lessons provided?
  • Each lesson is taught in groups of four and is 30 minutes long.
  • Students come out of their subject lessons and join us in Studio 2 for LAMDA lessons.
  • Their LAMDA teacher will ensure that lessons rotate so they do not miss the same lesson each week.
How much do LAMDA lessons cost?

Students will receive on average six lessons per half term in small groups of  students of the same age and grade level.

These lessons will cost £60 per term.

How will my child know when their lessons are timetabled?

Students and parents can use this page for up to date timetables.

They are also displayed in school outside studio 1 and 2.

We will also ensure that your child is aware of their next lesson time each week and ask them to record that time in their study file.

How can I request to stop my child’s LAMDA lessons?

If during the year you feel LAMDA lessons are no longer suitable for your child, please contact creativearts@gracecollege.org.uk,we cannot accept a message from the student.

When will LAMDA examinations take place?

If your child wishes to take a LAMDA exam, first this will need to be discussed with Miss Talman the LAMDA tutor.

These exams will take place in the summer term, and there is an additional fee for the examination.

A visiting examiner from LAMDA will conduct the exams in Studio 2.
