Grace College students secure significant opportunities at university and excellent opportunities in industry
We are delighted with the results our students achieved in very challenging circumstances, coping with lockdown, COVID and the overall effects of two years of disrupted education.
Students arrived at 8:30 this morning to collect their grades and celebrated with staff and family the rewards of their hard work. They are looking forward to their next steps as they leave school and step out into the wider world!
- 27% of students will be going to Russell Group universities, including seven at Newcastle University. Other universities include Leeds, Liverpool and Edinburgh. Four students are going further afield to study in London, at Greenwich and Westminster University. Compared to the 2019 destinations, the percentage of students going to Russell Group universities is 7% higher.
- Head Girl, Rosie Greatorex, received 2A*s and an A (English Literature, History and RS). She will be studying English Literature at Newcastle University. Head boy Euan Gray received an A and 2Bs (Geography, Biology and Politics). He is taking a year out and is looking to apply for international relations and politics. We are so pleased with the results of these two students who have been significant leaders within the school body, and have supported their year group through the most challenging of A Level years.
- Khadija Al-Haj Nasar achieved an astonishing A*, A and 3Bs (Arabic, Biology, Chemistry, Maths, Physics). This is an astounding achievement. Khadija has massively exceeded her predicted grades and her achievement is testament to her hard work and dedication. Khadija will be studying Pharmacy at Newcastle University.
- William Hall achieved an A* and 3As (Chemistry, Biology, Maths and Physics) and is studying Chemistry at Newcastle. Other high achievers include Abbie Brunskill (A*A, B), Kate Smith (A*, A, A), Alice Cable (A, A, B) and Tyler Justice Young (A, A, A) Abbie and Tyler will both be going to Newcastle University, studying Psychology and Classics respectively. Kate and Alice are taking a year out.
- Our vocational students have also had much to celebrate. Daniela Da Silva Rodrigues achieved Distinction, Merit, Distinction (Enterprise, Health and Social Care and Travel and Tourism). Daniela will be studying Psychology at Northumbria.
- There are some interesting next steps for students. Linzi-Jean Heslop will be starting a degree apprenticeship with Northumbria Police force with a view to become a police officer in five years. Riley Sweeney will be studying Zoology at Newcastle University.
The significant effort of students and staff have meant that the school has achieved a valued added score of 0.12.
As noted in the press already, these results are elevated from those of 2019. For Grace College, the Average Points Score was six points higher than 2019 at 35.41.
- 27% of grades are A*/A, up from 6% in 2019.
- 77% of grades are A*-C, up from 56% in 2019.
- The average A Level grade is a B-, up from a grade C in 2019.
The grades achieved by our students are comparable to the 2021 TAGs and are stronger than the 2020 CAGs.
